Become a board member

Are you passionate about sex and relationships and want to make a difference to communities across Scotland? Join us as a trustee!

Pillow Talk Scotland is recruiting two new trustees to help guide our charity as we grow. We’re building a Scotland where people can talk about sex, relationships and intimacy with confidence, and without stigma or shame getting in the way.

Trustees are volunteers and the board’s role is governance, oversight and accountability. You’ll help make sure Pillow Talk Scotland is well-run, financially sound, and producing accurate, evidence-based and ethical journalism that serves our community.

Time commitment: around 2–4 hours per month on average, plus quarterly board meetings. Some months will be quieter; others may be a bit busier if you join a working group or support recruitment/fundraising.

Part of our board (plus Iris!) after a very long 23 miles. Worth it, we raised more than £1,800!

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need previous board experience. We’re looking for people who:

  • share our mission and values
  • can work positively as part of a team
  • bring good judgement and are confident asking questions
  • can offer constructive challenge when needed
  • are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • can commit the time required for quarterly meetings and preparation

Skills we’d particularly welcome

We’d especially like to hear from people with experience in:

  • health / sexual health / public health / counselling
  • HR / people management
  • fundraising / development
  • finance / accounting
  • plus (if relevant): journalism/editorial, digital marketing, legal, research, events, community advocacy

As we grow, we want our decision-making to be informed by a broad range of lived experience. We’re particularly keen to hear from people from global majority communities, men (inclusive of trans men), people aged 40+, and disabled people.
